The hike of Grand Morgon or Pic de Morgon will offer you a breathtaking 360 ° view of the lake of Serre Ponçon, the Gapençais but also the Embrunnais. Anticipate the day return to perform the ride. Panoramic images from the summit.
Hiking and scenery at the Pic du Morgon or Grand Morgon (French Alps)
About 700 meters of elevation gain will allow you to reach the summit at 2324 meters above sea level through the large plateau of the Cirque de Morgon. The departure is from the car park of the big clot at a little less than 1600 meters altitude. Note that access to parking is via a track that is not in very good condition. Do not hesitate to stop and visit the Abbey of Boscodon.
From the top you will enjoy, as the panoramic images shows on this page, very many points of observation, from west to east (Hautes Alpes) : the village of Saint Vincent les Forts overlooked by its fortification Vauban (do not hesitate to visit Eric's friend, "the squire of places" on the website of the association), the summit of Dourmilliouse above the ski resort of Saint Jean de Montclar; the lake of Serre Ponçon, its dam, the chapel Saint Michel on its islet and the bridge of Savine; Chorges, the Gapençais basin and the aptly named "soft capital", the foothills of the Ecrins massif with Mount Guillaume wearing the chapel of the same name at 2552 meters above sea level just opposite the Morgon; the Embrunais and further afield, along the Durance, the Guillestrois, carries towards Queyras, Protestant, and Briançonnais, Catholic.
